I can tell you that for the past year I've been very pleased with the
performance of my Dell E5420 laptop (Intel Core i5 2.5 GHz), with 4 GB RAM and
Win 7 32-bit (company standard - apparently 64-bit is an issue for someone
here). I'm using WDSCi still, not anything newer, but since the new stuff is
allegedly faster, that would be even better. I can run WDSCi, FireFox, Chrome,
Internet Exploder, Lotus Notes, multiple open documents in MS Word and Excel,
and multiple 5250 sessions and not see any appreciable slowdown. At work I use
a 22 inch monitor plus the built-in; when I work at home, I use a 20 inch plus
the built-in. Bigger is better, of course, and I did hook up my 24 inch at home
once, which was great except my son didn't like using the 20 inch on my home
desktop for his games. (grin)
So, I'd say any commercially available hardware in this performance class or
higher would work pretty well for you.

Subject: [WDSCI-L] PC Tech Specs for RDi
Hi folks -
I've googled around, and couldn't find what I was looking for. Thought
it was a midrange thread a while back, but couldn't find it.
What are your thoughts for a new PC configuration for RDi? This would
be for RPG/CL/DDS programmers, with an eventual move toward things
like PHP for some of the developers. A robust machine that's 'beefy'
enough to perform normal office functions as well as editing and
testing programs. Monitor ideas would be good too.
