Well, here are my 2 cents.
1. Memory is cheap, buy lots of it. Seriously, buy as much memory as you can.
2. I would buy an i5 or better processor, but that is not really an Rational Developer suggestion. Any multicore processor should do.
3. This is the one that catches people (especially if this will be a laptop), in my experience, Rational Developer reads and writes to the disk A LOT. Don't run it on a hard drive less than 7,200 RPM. Laptops will often come with lower speed hard drives to save power.
4. As for monitors, a 22" - 24" widescreen is dirt cheap. I run two of them.
To give you an idea of what I use:
1. Desktop
Dell XPS 8300
3.4 GHz i7 processor
16GB RAM
2TB 7,200 RPM Seagate Hard Drive
Dual 23" LCD Monitors
2. Laptop
ASUS UX31 Ultrabook
1.6 GHz i5 processor
4GB RAM
128GB SSD
Both of these configurations run Rational Developer flawlessly.
Hope this helps,

Subject: [WDSCI-L] PC Tech Specs for RDi
Hi folks -
I've googled around, and couldn't find what I was looking for. Thought it was a midrange thread a while back, but couldn't find it.
What are your thoughts for a new PC configuration for RDi? This would be for RPG/CL/DDS programmers, with an eventual move toward things like PHP for some of the developers. A robust machine that's 'beefy'
enough to perform normal office functions as well as editing and testing programs. Monitor ideas would be good too.
Any advice appreciated. Thanks!
