I'm in the midst of upgrading from WDSC 7 to RDp 8.5. I can attest it is
definitely faster. Some tasks take at least 10 seconds (sometimes more
like 20) in WDSC and they only take a second or two in RDp. For example:
I keep the 'Commands Log' view as a fast view. When I do the first
listing of members in the 'Object Table' or 'Remote Systems' views the
'Commands Log' view pops up; in WDSC it takes 10 to 20 seconds before I
can switch back to the desired view--whereas in RDp, it is fast enough
that when the 'Commands Log' view pops up, I can immediately switch back
to either the 'Object Table' or 'Remote Systems' view; then it's either
already populated or populates within a second or two.

RDp is very nice and snappy. The development team has put a lot of
thinking and work into the newer tools--they've done a great job.

Which kind of begs the question Peter - why don't you upgrade to
7.5?

Probably the same reason most people don't upgrade ... companies
won't pay for it.

This is why I have to maintain a WDSC 7 compatible version of the
Implementer plug-in as well as a RDi 7.5+ version.

It is a lot faster and more stable if I remember correctly.

I don't think I've seen a huge performance improvement in later
versions of the IDE ... but they have squashed a number of annoying
bugs.
