Sorry to create any confusion
Dave has done a great job of clearing things up.
Before RD Power 7.6 in Apr 2010, our product group was focused exclusively
on the IBM i.
We now support developing applications on the AIX (IBM Unix) and Linux
operating systems on the same hardware.

The COBOL compiler on AIX shares technology with System z (IBM mainframe)
so it was relatively easy to share COBOL tooling with our sister product
targeting System z (Rational Developer for z or RDz).
The COBOL compiler on IBM is newer (and better in many respects) but
because it is different, it will require substantial investment to make the
AIX/z COBOL tooling work for IBM i.

IBM is listening to you, as this current release shows with many of your
highest voted RFEs done, in spite of being very expensive. So please vote
on COBOL RFEs. You will get our attention (and believe me, I am letting
our management know about these notes as well).

Yes that makes sense. Will just have to get use to a COBOL enhancement
from IBM that might not affect the operating system we are running.

AIX is the version of Unix that runs on IBM POWER hardware. AIX COBOL is
the
COBOL compiler for that operating system. It doesn't run on the IBM i
operating
system. If you're 'pushed' to AIX for some reason you may be 'pushed' to
the
AIX COBOL compiler, but you won't be 'pushed' to it while you're running
IBM i.
Clear?

So I am confused, as a small company not planning on going away from COBOL
anytime soon, are we going to get pushed to this AIX COBOL at some point?
Did IBM need to create an AIX COBOL for marketing purposes? Why did AIX
COBOL have to be created to get COBOL enhancements or COBOL RDP
enhancements? As a younger programmer just trying to understand IBM's
direction with COBOL.
