Another Debug SEP problem

I've been on 8.0..3 for some time now, and have a problem that causes the
entire IDE to freeze/stop responding.

As near as I can tell it's triggered while in the debug perspective and I
do a CTRL-F to find a string.

Then while doing this or some other form of navigating, I get the gray box
that looks like I had highlighted a chunk of code, but I didn't do
anything that I know of to trigger the gray highlighting. If I then try to
do an ALT-U to remove the highlighted block the whole shebang dies and I
have to go into the task manager and kill it and start over. And when I
restart my workspace isn't even close to the state it was in when I first
opened it. Twice today I had to terminate the ide in the task manager and
start over.

V6R1 and pretty current with PTF's and,running on XP-pro sp3 with 3gb ram.

Any ideas on how to remedy?
