Tried to clean up the old directories and cannot do so. If I try to
take ownership of the C:\Program Files\IBM\SDP\jdk\jre\bin folder so
that I can delete it I get told that the present owner cannot be
determined and to try to take ownership. That attempt fails too even
though I am an administrator. Up until now I have quite liked Windows
7 - but I'm going off it really quickly!

A tip that I received from our network admin that helped RDP and other
software too, is:

navigate to the folder (directory) in question (Program Files (x86) for
example) and right-click, Properties, Security tab, Advanced button, Owner
tab, and make yourself (or whatever account you wish) the Owner of that
folder.

Then Win7 will allow that user to update that folder.
