What you can do in SEU - afaik you can do in RDp/WDSC fairly easily. It's a good starting point. Even today after about 6 years of using the IDE there are still times when I use the line commands. The list of shortcuts (which I also provided in an earlier thread) is a great starting point.
Searching by date is a little bit different. Right-click the source and select Filter View. Then chose date, and follow the options.
I would argue that while the IDE provides a nice and easy solution to most SEU functions, the same is not true for PDM. I'm not saying that the IDE doesn't have the ability to replace the PDM functions, but at times it's not 'easy.' For instance, changing the job description on a compile (which I believe I was told required a user-defined command, which I still haven't found the time to bother - I still compile in PDM).
For searching through source I suggest using the flashlight button at the top of the screen vs right-clicking a filter to search.
Which leads me to filters. Filters are a wonderful way of organizing how you would like to view source. A co-worker of mine prefers to branch down to the actual library/location of source, but that always seemed like too much effort (since I work with so many libraries). Do the work to set up filters once, and you're set for easy navigation.
This was a bit rambly, but I hope it helps.

Subject: [WDSCI-L] Providing Work Arounds for PDM/SEU
Group,
Still working on providing work arounds for a developer that wants to go to WDSc/RDp. Has anyone compiled a list of alternatives or equivalents to PDM/SEU that would be willing to share?
