EGL CE and EGL Open Source are different animals.

EGL CE was a stopgap to allow people to get started with EGL Rich UI for free, I think in part because they (Rational) were trying to figure out what to open source. Now that they're comfortable, the EGL open source project has supplanted EGL CE.

The EGL open source project can be found here:

http://www.eclipse.org/projects/project_summary.php?projectid=tools.edt

One thing to understand is that at least for now open source EGL will not contain all the really nifty thin client JSF tooling. It's primarily for the Rich UI JavaScript-based stuff (and of course all the services that support that model).

Look for "EGL Community Edition" or EGLce...

Subject: [WDSCI-L] EGL Open Source

I just read an article in IBM Magazine (December 2011, IBM i version) that
said IBM was releasing EGL to the open source community. I was off list
during that period, but I didn't see anything discussing it in the archives.
It even said that IBM was proving free training.

Has anyone help anything else about this? I never got into EGL, when it was
part of WDSc, and I'm not sure that our company would have a long term
interest, but I would sure be interested to learn more. I saw an entry in
the EGL blog at developerWorks dated back in August about this and something
in the EGL Café site. Not much on detail, except that I noticed that one
still needs RDP (8.0, I think).

Anyone have any additional information or links regarding this
initiative/project?

Thanks.
