At my former employer, the reason WDSC wasn't used much is because of the learning curve for many to be weaned off of SEU. The company had made the "threat" to turn off SEU to force individuals onto WDSC, but something caused them to back down from that. So there was the two camps at that employer; those on the green screen side of things and those on the WDSC bandwagon; the former having more individuals than the latter. What also turned off some individuals was the CODE Designer product. It was very buggy at the time until the last set of changes that stabilized the product, but the damage was done: Trying to convince them to retry the product was a lost cause because of the earlier issues. Then the employer went down a different path that took them away from using WDSC (they went down the road of Visual Lansa).
With the employer I am now with, they had both the green screen tools and WDSC. Then RDi came along followed by RDP. We are now using V8.0 (current with 8.0.0.1) and just got our licenses for it. The group here seems more receptive to the use of these tools. I think part of it was they didn't experience some of the initial pains in using the product (going back to CODE Designer again), plus unlike my former employer, there will be formal training forthcoming. Once that takes place, I will be interested in seeing which camp each person sides with.
And to finally add my .02 worth, the naming convention for the product is confusing; I hope that IBM is noting this and will try to stabilize the naming convention going forward before we have to add another one to the "aka" (also known as) list. But...I do like what I have seen so far with RDP and, lately, the increased interaction with individuals from IBM on these postings. Even the quick response to fix that "in a window" issue (forthcoming in an update soon available for RDP) was refreshing and very timely!

Bryce,
You are probably right. I am saying that the reason that WDSC(etc) is not
more widely used is because of the way it was introduced. Those things you
are referring to, were not there originally. Consequently, most programmers
looked at it and did not like it. Some never tried again. I use V7, and like
it but it took a while to get there.

RDP ----- Screen Design Check! Report Designer Check!
Debug??? Hello?! SEP ... I'll say it again... SEP!!!!! I haven't
debugged in a green screen debugger since discovering Service Entry Points
(SEP). It is hands down the best debugger on the system. And SEP's are
there in WDSC 7 too. Oh yea, and you can use CODE designer which ships
with WDSC 7 to do screens. Your last email is mute.

I disagree. I think it is because it is not as good as SEU. It is a
wonderful tool, but they(IBM) went 90% of the way again. Without screen
design, report design, and debug done easily, why would people want to use
it. You still have to use both.

"The market overwhelmingly prefers SEU."
And is that because getting/installing/learning/using WDSCi RDP itself is
so confusing?
FWIW - once I got my account in the license center it only took me 5
minutes to get and install the license key - so why did Rational think I
needed a 27 page document justto do that?
