Wow...bet you're still honked that your B10 won't run 7.1.... :)

Seriously, I understand where you're coming from I still use SEU a
considerable amount for quick browsing...mainly because the green
screen interface to our CMS is faster than the WDSC plug in.

The point of my admittedly sarcastic initial line is simply, the only
constant is change...especially in IT.

IBM has made it clear that ILE and RDp are the road it intends to head
down. That being the case, I'd much prefer that they make it easier
for me to follow than it is for me to stay parked on RPGIII and
SEU/PDM. Charging a toll to move down the ILE RDp road certainly
doesn't help.

I know we're planning on moving to 6.1 / 7.1...I'm pretty sure I'll be
able to keep the ILE compilers...perhaps even be able to drop the OPM
ones...but being able to move from WDSC to RDp is another story.

If IBM were to move RPGIII and SEU/PDM to PPRQ status, management
would have less of an issue following IBM; and I think I could live
with DSPF/EDTF for quick hit green screen access to code.

Of course, the reality is it doesn't really matter to me at this
point...the "legacy" i is on it's way out...being replace by SAP on
AIX...in 5 years I'll probably be doing ABAP, or perhaps .NET or
Java...

Might it have helped if IBM had pushed developers a bit more instead
of making it so easy to keep doing things as they always had...I think
so. Might they have ticked off a few existing customers,
perhaps...but I think the resulting environment would have been better
at bringing in new customers.
