But CentOS is more of a server distro, not a desktop distro. Ubuntu is
geared toward being an easy to use Linux desktop. There are separate
versions for server. IBM has some love with RedHat as its "enterpricy"
(and enterprice companies like enterprice software, open source or not).
Ubuntu support will come because most users want it, but they had to start
somewhere, and they started with their bottom line.

Re: [WDSCI-L] RD for Power V8 on Ubuntu - issues
It's by far the most downloaded of the Distros and has an excellent
support network, however CentOS and SLED are still big contenders. It
depends on if you want a Debian derivative or not. Really, other than
administration differences and how the packages load/update, there is
not much of a difference functionally between them. I use both Ubuntu
(on my EEPC) and CentOS on the servers here at Agile. We use SLES on
iDevCloud. Other than some command differences and a bit of directory
structure, not much difference to the user.

BTW - I am a little surprised that RD for Power is not supported on
Ubuntu - isn't Ubuntu the primary Linux Desktop - or am I mistaken?
