Matt,

FWIW, the lack of support fro 64-bit Windows is not an RDP limitation,
it's actually a limitation of Eclipse (the open source platform RDP is
built on). Support for 64-bit Windows was added in the Helios (3.6)
version that came out on June 23, 2010. I'm sure as soon as IBM releases
a version on Helios, they will officially support Win7 64.

Re: [WDSCI-L] Windows 7 compatibility?

That actually makes me pretty angry, to be honest. We asked multiple
times
if it would be supported and no one EVER asked about or mentioned 64-bit
not being supported. Their web site does not make any distinction. No
one
at IBM tells you this. The fact is that Windows 7 is likely to be the
first version of Windows where more 64-bit versions will be sold than 32
bit. Windows 32-bit has that 3GB memory limit. If you want 4GB, then you
have Windows 64-bit. Most people buying computers now want a minimum of
4GB. This is a major mistake by IBM. Most of their Windows 7 customers
are not going to be supported when everything their sales department tells
you and web site lists leads you to believe it will be.

Grrrr....

I had a recent conversion with the RD group at IBM.
This is the response to Windows 7, 64-bit running RD for Power.

Regarding your question:

Note:
IBM Rational Developer for Power Systems Software V7.6 is not
supported on Microsoft Windows operating systems running on 64-bit
processors.

LINK:
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27018787

The following snipit, is from the above link.

Note:
IBM Rational Developer for Power Systems Software V7.6 is not
supported on Microsoft Windows operating systems running on 64-bit
processors.
The listed operating systems support all of the languages that are
supported by IBM Rational Developer for Power Systems Software V7.6.

Now, that being said, we are also running V7.6 on 64-bit Windows
7..... with no issues.
Have a great day,

We upgraded to 7.6 recently because I got a new 64-bit Windows 7
machine and I believe the latest version is the only one that
officially supports on Windows 7, That is not to say that other
versions won't run on Windows 7.

Plugin development.
I like to use the most recent, but must create plugins that work on
previous versions for customers.

Any particular reason you install them all in the same Windows
instance?

I would consider having a virtual machine for each to keep things
clean.

Interesting ... I'm currently running RDi 7.5 on a 64bit Windows 7
install
right now.

As a plug-in developer, I have to support multiple versions of WDSC,
RDi,
&
RDp ... I installed RDp 7.6 first, and started moving backwards.

I haven't found the WDSC install media, so that's not yet installed.
