I got my first exposure to the DDS designer in RDpower 7.6 this week, so maybe there are features I'm not aware that could save time but my feeling is that I would be less productive. Now, the comparison is to CODE designer as it is included in WDSC. I base that on the fact that the new designer lack shortcuts to change a field to Output, Both, etc. Or set the common display attributes and color. That you need to change the selection to a marquee to select a bunch of fields together. That you can't just start typing for tex constants.
(I do like the true editable source view.)
