It's obvious: Because it keeps changing!

Darn right it's ridiculous. AS/400 -> iSeries -> System i -> IBM i on Power. No wonder nobody knows about how great the system is ... they don't know what to call it. We had a brand name, then another, another after that, and now a new one. How many names has Windows had? ONE. Lots of versions of Windows, but just one brand name. EVERYONE knows what you're talking about when you say MS Windows.

WDSC -> RDi -> RD Power for i? Same story.

If I sound frustrated, it's because I am.

Of course this isn't the correct list to discuss branding. That would be MIDRANGE-NONTECH (http://midrange-nontech.l.midrange.com).

As for the IDE's name ... a 3 or 4 letter acronym is much easier to say & remember than a 12 letter phrase.

RDi = Rational Developer for IBM i
RDPi = Rational Developer for Power Systems IBM i edition.

I'm sticking with that. I like it. Those who are interested in the topic will understand what it means quickly.

And, for the purposes of my COMMON presentation, I think I'm going to refer to all versions generically as "RDi". I've already added a slide explaining the naming.
