First off, WDSC is better than what I have come up with on Linux, but I have made a choice to move to Linux and the trade off is working. Unfortunately each time we bring the topic of making WDSC/RDi run on Linux George Farr basically says there isn't enough demand (which I can understand, though I believe the demand is changing with Mac OSX and Ubuntu gaining popularity).

For my RPG editing I am using RPGNextGen.com (free, open source, based on eclipse).

For my debugging I am using IBM's graphical iSeries Debugger (free) (screen shot: http://mowyourlawn.com/temp/Ubuntu_iseries_debugger.png) (download: http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/i/software/toolbox/)

For my 5250 I use TN5250J, though I am trying to make the switch to TN5250 (no "J") because it is blazingly fast.



If you are looking to try the iSeries debugger from IBM and want to create a short cut on an Ubuntu desktop panel, here is the string I use:

java -cp /home/user/apps/jtopen_6_4/lib:/home/user/apps/jtopen_6_4/lib/jhall.jar:/home/user/apps/jtopen_6_4/lib/jt400.jar:/home/user/apps/jtopen_6_4/lib/tes.jar utilities.Debug

I have been trying out Linux on my desktop for about the past year now and
while it does have it's issues (the kind that can only surface after a
years worth of use) I must say that I love the fact I have my CPU back to
just being used by my processes and NOT by anti-virus (which seems to run
extensively for most communications and operations I perform on my Windows
PC).

Just a plug for anybody else that might want to try out the next
generation of desktop computing :-)
