Yeah, that's an optimization that the compiler does automatically.
There's an H-spec that changes that behavior. Put this at the top of
your program:

I don't know if this helps or not, but what I have noticed, that if a
variable isn't actually used in the code, it doesn't seem to be
viewable.
Once used, it is viewable.

I haven't stopped long enough to really digest that event, but for what
it's worth.

a work field just for debugging. So where I had break points I moved

LDA field into the work field and got the answer I was after. I just

remember to remove those lines when done testing and putting the program
