The Installation Manager (IM) we used is actually doing the same thing: if
you select a different package group, an instance of a product will be
installed into a different folder. The only difference is that the common
stuff is always installed into the same "shared" folder (to save disk
space).

If more than one product are installed into the same pacakge group, you
get functions of all of them when any one of them is started. Also, IM
makes it easier to apply updates or Roll back to previous update levels (
RDi and WDSC doesn't support Roll back, though).

Thanks.

Chenghui, just curious, why doesn't IBM go the route of the traditional
Eclipse installation where I can easily separate multiple installs by
putting them in separate folders?

For example, here is how I do my other Ecilpse installs:

c:/eclipse/MyEclipseIDE1.2
c:/eclipse/Eclipse3.2
c:/eclipse/EclipseJ2EE

To solve this problem, when you install/update Rational Developer for
System i V7.1.0.1, don't select the "i5/OS Web Services and Java Tools"
feature (i.e., You'll update only the rest of the features).
This co-exist problem will not be resolved until a new fix pack of
Rational Business Develper V7.1 is released.

Thanks.

[WDSCI-L] Problem updating Rational Developer for System i for SOA
Construction

Hi all,

I've installed Rational Developer for System i for SOA Construction
(first
I've installed RBD, then I've installed RDi in the same folder to be
able
to work with Web Services and finally I've installed HATS) and when I
tried to update RDi to version 7.1.0.1, Installation Manager sends me an
error message saying than some packages doesn't meet all requirements to
be updated.

So I thought that if I install RDi in a different folder I'll be able to
update it but when I tried that I realized that I wasn't able to work
with
Web Services (feature provided with RBD).

I need help!!!

Thanks a lot in advance.
