Not conciously... I like to use key shortcuts, and perhaps I'm hitting by
accident a combination that switches the editor mode. If so, what key
combination could it be?

Any chance you've been changing the editor profile? There are multiple
editor profiles (which mostly just change the key bindings) which make the
keys work like other editors (vi, emacs, seu, etc.).
