That's okay with me. Just point out the features in RDi and RDi SOA
that make it worthwhile to switch. But please don't call for a "staying
in the past" tax against PDM. That's reminiscent of the "interactive"
tax that generated a lot of resentment against IBM and motivated people
to move to Microsoft technologies. It would be better for IBM and
better for customers if IBM reduced the price of PDM to be more inline
with the cost of supporting it.
As other's have pointed out, IBM's pricing manipulations of the past
have come across as a shell game. And even you've complained about
their bait and switch maneuvering. If IBM is investing their money in
Rational tools, then IBM should be charging customers for Rational
tools, instead of milking the PDM users to pay for the new tools.
PDM is not the enemy. Visual Studio is. Time and effort trying to get
people to move off PDM could better be spent by reclaiming the lost
souls who switched to Visual Studio and .Net. If you look at the
features of RDi SOA you can see that it is precisely positioned to
compete against Visual Studio and .Net.
For those who are complaining against the cost of Rational tools, don't
compare it to PDM. Compare it to tools from Microsoft, Zend, Computer
Associates, Seagul Software, Websmart, and the list could go on.
Nathan.
