Joe,

Unfortunately our core application is written in RPGIII RPT programs. I
have been trying unsuccessfully for the last few years to get management
approval to convert to ILE as we work on them. We just had that
discussion again yesterday. The cost issue may sway them but I don't
think so. The company's stated direction is to replace most if not all
in house iSeries software with vendor packages of some kind in the next
five years or so. I don't know what the commitment level is to keeping
the system current. If I can't get the IT management behind it I don't
see the company management getting behind it.

It shouldn't be. The goal is for 4 developers on a P05 to cost roughly
the same as it does today, it's just that you're going to have to choose
the tools you will use. As I said, if you can get off the legacy tools
(both the non-ILE compiler and the ADTS tool suite), you will actually
save money (not to mention have a more productive shop).
