"opened up in the firewall" is my technical term for what the net guy
does to all me to get a new installation of WDSC 6.x updated. I only
have him do that when the Updater needs its updates.

I looked in the archive for more help and I found this post,
http://archive.midrange.com/wdsci-l/200607/msg00077.html. Hmmm, it was
from me, way to long ago for me to remember what exactly occurred. I
guess I must have at one time updated the Updater locally.

Thanks, Matt

I think you lost me a bit there Matt. I get this problem when I try to
install an update from a local installation, so I am not going out to
the net for the update (although I do get the same problem if I try
that). I don't use a proxy server for internet access, and I don't think
there are any firewall restrictions for this machine. Could you explain
what you mean about "opened up in the firewall" ?

We had this problem and the person's computer had to be opened up in the
fire wall since you could not set the proxy settings until you go the
updater updates. Once we got the updater updated and changed the proxy
settings all the other updates went well.

I am certain there is a configuration file for the updater that you can
set the proxy values manually for but I no longer have 6.x to see where.
I think the updater was in the product C:\Program Files\IBM\SDP\6.0\
location.

Thanks, Matt

I apologise if I am going over old ground here. I have seen this problem
mentioned more than once in the archive, but I haven't spotted a
solution yet.

We have a tried and trusted install and upgrade procedure for WSDc on XP
Pro, but I have just tried it on a Vista for Business laptop and,
although the install (6.0.0) was fine, when it comes to finding and
installing updates I get "Error parsing at line 4 of update manifest of
blah blah blah". I get this I use the local update we have been using
for some and also if I use the default site and obtain the update
online.

The only solution I have seen seems to indicate that I need an update
for the Rational Product Updater first, but the process described to get
that is the process I followed that keeps giving me this error. So it's
a bit of a catch-22.

Has anyone else resolved this? I assume we have people busily using
WSDc on Vista out there?
