On a different but related note, seeing all these emails about the
efficacy of WDSC made me fire it up and edit a program. And set a SEP.
And test and change and debug...until I tried to change a
variable...then everything I tried to do in evaluate expression failed
with a system (CPE) string error...and hover didn't work for showing
variable contents. So I exited WDSC and fired it up again. And
something similar happened. So I did it again.

and I'm on 6.0(something), and I know I should go to 7.0(something),
and life would be better if I did...but since I'm the only person
using WDSC in a 9 programmer group, it's a low value proposition to
get the upgrade and install it on one PC. Not that I won't...it's just
that I won't do it right now.

But editing in WDSC and using STRDBG from the green screen works well.

Could someone please let me know what I'm doing wrong here? Thanks!

Should I not try and run interactive commands? Or is there a better way
to run them without using STRRSESVR?

In my opinion, if you need to use a green screen utility (maybe WRKACTJOB or
whatever) then use an emulator. If you want a GUI for those types of
functions, use iNav.

If you're debugging a green screen program, you use Service Entry Points to
set the initial breakpoint on the program, and then you run it from the
green screen like you normally would. i5/OS traps the call, suspends the
job, and transfers control to WDSC, at which point you can debug it like you
normally would.

It's really the cat's pajamas. <grin>

Some people don't use this because you can't set an SEP on a non-ILE
program. I wonder, though, if you can use an ILE wrapper and then step into
the non-ILE programs. I haven't tried that.
