I opened a fixed format RPGLE member today. It had been run through one of those comment colorizing programs (so there were hex values in column 5).
Right after opening, I ran the convert all to free format. It converted C* comments to // comments starting in column 7. LPEX has no problem with the comments starting in position 7, but the compiler doesn't like them (RNF5505).
I thought it might have to do with the hex codes, so I deleted a set of comments and re-entered them starting in column 7. The compiler still does like them.
So...according to RNF5505, positions 6 and 7 have to blank in free form. If so, why doesn't LPEX complain and why did the conversion put the comments there? What did I mess up?
