Re: Reopen member slow because of outline

Hi all,
I have the same problem Thierry described.
Let say I have a ILE RPG member X. I have refreshed the outline view for
this member.
When I open this member in WDSC with outline view closed it takes less
than a second.
When I open this member in WDSC with outline view opened it takes more
than 10 seconds.
When I open this member in WDSC with outline view closed and then open
the outline view it displays the outline for a moment, then "goes blank"
for about 10 seconds (as if the outline view was beeing refreshed) and
finally displays the outline.

I have cleared cache. I have deleted the xml file storing the outline view
data (btw. its size is 872 KB) and subsequently regenerated the outline
view but that changed nothing.

I have the same problem with other ILE RPG members.

Is it a bug or a feature ? Or maybe my preference settings are in some way
"incorrect" ?

Does anybody know a solution to this problem?

I am on WDSC 7.0.0.2

It is strange that populating the outline view is taking this long.

There

is a generated xml file which is used to populate the outline view. This
intermediate file is deleted as part of clearing the cache. You can also
manually delete this file. It is located in
yourworkspace\.metadata\.plugins\com.ibm.etools.iseries.core\information
and has a filename that ends with your source member name, with an
extension of xml.

Hi,
Is there a way to disable rebuilding the outline view when re-opening a
source member that had an outline generated previously?

I had not really noticed it before but now, once I generate an outline
for a member, every time I reopen that member, the outline view is
populated. Ok, nice feature, I don't have to do an initial refresh of
the view. However, it does not scale for larger programs.
For instance, a program that took originally 8 seconds to open now takes
over one minute because the outline is being built. Any way to avoid

that?
