Ok, here's some things that are interesting on this problem. When I run
the verify with prompt and select refresh cache it flags every file and
every copy member as not found and problem communicating with the host.
This generates errors for field not defined for fields that come from
the files and copy members.

Now, I run the verify without check on the refresh cashe and it run,
run, run, taking much longer, about 3 minutes, and comes up with only 2
errors and both on the line with xml-into.

It compiles on the host without errors using WDSC compile option.

Go figure!

My version is 6.0.0.1 (looks like I need an upgrade).

Actually, Brian, not knowing which one to clear I cleared both cache
that you mention.

Bill,

I experience very long verify and outline refresh times when the cache
is
full. My maximum is set at 50MB. You mentioned you cleared the cache,
but
did you clear the correct one? Or is there more than one cache? I see
two
preferences pages that contain settings for "cache"...

Preferences+Remote Sysetms+File Cache
Preferences+Remote Sysetms+iSeries+Cache

Both pages have a clear button. Kinda confusing, no?

I used the "Clear Cache" button on the "Preferences+Remote
Sysetms+iSeries+Cache" page recently to restore sub-second outline
refreshes.

Hey Bill,

souds like the cache may not have the correct library list in the
cache.
Try a verify with prompt and select the refresh cache option.
You also don't mention which version you are running. There were a
few
bugs in 6.0.1 and even one in 7.0 which would have caused a hang, but
they
have all been fixed via service of those releases, so please try
ensuring
that you have the latest service applied (that would be 6.0.1.5 or
7.0.0.1
)
If the hang persists, I strongly recommend that you contact IBM
support so
that your problem can be resolved quickly and the necessary
reproduction
material obtained for the development team.

Ok, I did the verify. Then I did Cache File Description on several
files. Then I did refresh on the source pf because it could find the
/copy source members. Now it has it that XML pointing to the line
with
XML-INTO is not defined and assignment operator is expected on that
same
line. The program compiles on the 400 with not errors.

Hi Bill,

are you able to verify your source using the program verifier?
How long do you wait before you kill the process?

thanks,

My computer lockup when I attempt to generate an outline on one of
my
RPG IV source members. It takes a couple of minutes or so to get
to
the
task manager and cancel the javaw.exe that's using 100% of CPU.

The RPG member in question reads an xml and it reads a stream file
to
get the names of the xml files to read.

I have no clue as to why this happens. I've tried clearing cache,
cache
refresh, clean project. I even renamed the source to another name.

Some time back it starting making me cache every single library by
hand
in order to get any file's fields to appear in the outlines.

Outlines have just become too much trouble for me. I have quit
using
them.
