It's a controversial stance, but I strongly oppose using a
tool for this. Unless you have a very complete understanding
of the side effects of each of your MOVE statements, i.e.
source and target sizes and types, the automation of MOVE to
EVAL could prove an unpleasant learning experience.
Buck,
You've just never used a smart enough tool. ;-)
Linoma's RPG Wizard conversion tool examines the source & target sizes and
types in order to determine
if it can safely convert the MOVE to EVAL. If it can, and you've told it to do
so, it will convert
the MOVE. Otherwise it leaves it alone.
Linoma's tool has all kinds of options of what and how to convert.
You can go from RPG III to free format RPG IV with subprocedures (instead of
subroutines) & key data
structures (instead of KLISTs).
Here's a message in the achieve where I posted the parameter options to
Linoma's RPGWIZ command.

Last I heard, Linoma allowed you to download there tool and try it out with 10
free conversions.
Cost was pretty dang reasonable when we bought it at Mitsubishi.
If you've got some old RPG III laying around you've like to convert, give it a
shot.

Charles
