1. Re: New Release? (Jon Paris) I think the point you are missing though is that those developers already have CODE Designer - in other words for many the productivity difference you use to justify the cost (which at $3,500 US is frankly ridiculous) has already been factored in and (perhaps) used to justify the cost of PC upgrades. If CODE Designer didn't exist I would be more inclined to agree with you.
Jon:Mostly agreed, except CODE isn't gone from Standard 7.0. It should only be an issue for purchasers of WDSC at some point after 7.0. No?
And we don't yet know what will happen to pricing for 7.1 or later when CODE is truly dropped by IBM. By then, a version might be in Standard or new features might be added that make it worthwhile or some unexpected twist will change it all. (As if!)
AFAIK, right now, the _only_ issues are that purchasers of Advanced get an extra goodie immediately and that we've been told that CODE won't be enhanced nor are there apparent plans to continue distributing CODE after 7.0. (If a Standard feature is added in 7.1, there shouldn't be much problem with dropping CODE altogether.)
It just seems that there's worrying being expressed that /might/ not be necessary. That's not saying that there should be no concerns voiced -- if IBM hears no loud complaints, they won't address it. But it also means that we don't know what we're complaining about quite yet. So, complain loudly, but continue with work.
Then again, if we're really talking /per seat/...?! YOW! Add that to my two issues above! Where's my soapbox and megaphone?!
Ohhh... that's different. Nevermind. Tom Liotta
