Two or three 8 hour days might be enough to then not experience weeks of
reduced productivity. Susan and I do a lot of this kind of training and two days is enough - although normally we prefer to make it three and incorporate other topics (skills enhancement in RPG or SQL for example) and then have the students work through the class exercises using WDSC. It makes the training more "real" as it is really tough to simulate real work tasks in a scripted Lab environment.
Common and others should consider 2-3 day intensive training sessions to
get many RPG'ers into WDSCI. COMMON (and others including us) have considered this, but the problem is the hardware and set-up. Renting PCs and configuring/installing them is an expensive business. Even if people bring their own (an idea that has been a disaster every time I have seen it attempted) there is still the System i connection to deal with. Hotels may charge you $10 a day for an in-room internet connection but want a ridiculous figure for connections in meeting spaces. $1,000 a day is not unheard of.
