Then go for it... I believe in telling every vendor what's not working with their products,
and as this list points out, IBM's feet should be held to the fire for
the wdsc problems. Having watched Microsoft's Roadshow demo crash 4 times
<then reboot> I don't find either's desktop development tools to be exemplary.

Who said anything about going into production, we are just starting to peal
the onion so we can keep the "heat" on both parties. Vista is here and it
will be here for some time and if you don't use it, even in testing, then
you can't tell them that's broken. Have you ever know a programmer or
developer who is will to test his/her code until it breaks? They just don't
make the dumb key strokes that users do. Communication or lack there of is
at the heart of all of these problems. So let's say that I am in a forced
communications mode.

IBM did post the iSeries Access issues (on the iSeries Access home page long

ago - warning users that MS was still "changing" Vista)
http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/eserver/iseries/access/supportedos.html
The MS changes in Vista has broken code for everyone, including IBM. The
web is littered with statements and postings from other vendors.

The problem is not that MS didn't provide pre-release code...it's that the
pre-release code and final release code is not the same & some of the
differences can be substantial.
I must say, if a company in the "development" business wants to start a
project with Vista - go for it - be a pioneer. A production environment has
no business using Vista yet - there is not an OS in the world , on any
platform, that is stable in the first few months. I would not load MS,
i5/Os, Aix, Oracle, Mac, or any other right now. Ignore the IBM world, &
look at all the problems with Vista in the rest of the computing community. Daily problems. Early adopters in a production environment should have their

head examined....and their priorities...</rant>

We did and we checked it from the MS side but I am unaware that IBM
offered
and advise as to how to check if WDSC or iSeries Access would work. Maybe
they did and I missed it in the mass of information flow or maybe they
didn't and just thought that the crows would just continue to sit on the
wires.

One thought would be to check software requirements before installing
a new operating system.

Hey Andy,

CODE/400 does not support Vista. Actually, WDSC is also currently
unsupported on Vista as well.

thanks,
