I was updating some iSeries filter strings (RSE, right click a filter, properties) and was presented with the message that I would be deleting resources and the action could not be undone. That made me think I was about to do a RMVM and not merely a filter string.

I created a new library, new source file and some sample members, then created a new connexion, filter group and filter so I could test it without causing any damage to my source tree.

'Delete' of a filter string just removes the filter string from the filter. The source on the iSeries remains as-is.

So. The email is for the archives and for other people new to filters, but I do have a question, I guess. Why use a generic expression like 'Delete selected resources?' And the detailed explanation is just as generic. From an end-user perspective (ho ho, not an RSE perspective!) those are scary words. It would be so much friendlier to see 'Delete selected filter string?' as a confirmation of my action. Guessing that I'd see a similar message for deleting other stuff, and that the developers would like to reuse a message as much as possible for translation reasons, an equally friendly alternative would be to have a link in the details pointing to the appropriate help section which would describe the behaviour of deleting a filter string.

All's well that ends well. :-)
