Re: Eclipse/RAD/WDSC enhancement plans

They released the beta of the tools platform (Rational Software Architect, 
which is a superset of RAD) this month.  They expect the full release in 
December.
 
I'd recommend downloading the beta and taking it for a spin.  If there are 
features missing, let Rational know about them so they can get them into the 
next release.  The other part of the reason they're componentizing the platform 
is that they're looking to stay more current with Eclipse releases (e.g., to 
have an Eclipse 3.3 compatible offering next year after that version ships), so 
you probably wouldn't have to wait for 2 years again.

Thanks for the update.  So that is TWO people who have independently
verified that WDSc will be based on Eclipse 3.2.  I talked to the WDSc
folks at Spring and Fall common and got the same information.  That
means I can use MyEclipse as well on the same Eclipse platform. 
Finally, "One platform to rule them all, one platform to find them, one
platform to bring them all and in the darkness"...hey wait a minute,
maybe this isn't such a good idea....

Is there a proposed date for this release?

this one is free of charge.  WDSC will be based upon it.

In a separate session, one of the IBM developers talked about IBM's future 
directions for Ajax.  Portal is going to become more Ajax enabled.  IBM 
considers the dojo framework to be a strategic direction, along with the 
Eclipse Ajax Framework (which provides tools to help build and debug Ajax 
applications).

Hi,
Does anyone have any information about IBMs plans to enhance RAD/WDSC?

We have has to transfer our web development to Eclipse 3.2, MyEclipse
and Instantiations in order to have a modern development environment for
Ajax, JSP and Servlet development.

I have always  used IBM tools but it seems that they are no longer
interested in competing in the web tools market.

Is it IBMs plan to use WDSC for legacy and webfacing projects only?
