Couldn't agree more Don. On 10/25/06, dnitke <dnitke@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:
I respectfully disagree Ryan. Just because someone codes in green screen doesn't mean they cant use WDSCi. It depends on the job you do, how you do it and thinking of ways to make the tool work for you situation. Given time to learn WDSCi it made me much more effecient. For instance I code programs for client machines, another words I program on many different iSeries or even one main iSeries transferring the source. The task of sending the code via snads or Ftp is so convoluted and slow compared to using WDSCi and a 1 minute save process. Also I debug RPG API's and using green screen debugger and finding the proper QUSER job is troublesome. Using the WDSCi job filters makes it much quicker to get debug up and running. I agree with everyone that WDSCi can be a pane by abending or the little quirks but its definitely a step in the right directly. SEU is a fine tool for writing RPG. Many people think WDSC is a better tool for writing RPG. WDSC (or an equivalent) is certainly needed for activities such as generating web pages and Java programming. But, if you're primarily writing RPG for a green screen environment, WDSC may be more than you need. Like anything else, you have to pick the right tool for the job. And the decision process for choosing the tool has to include the type of job, the requirements for the job, and the person using the tool. I doubt if IBM will ever drop SEU, so it's a tool that will be around for a long time. So will WDSC. - Michael On 10/25/06, Bill Barnes wrote: > > Thank you Adam for the info.
