That works great for single variables but if I'm using a data structure
hover won't display the values.

Hi,

I will bring the global variable support request back to the
team and investigate it.

For scalar variables, you can also use hover evaluation if
you don't want to add them into monitors view.
Hovering mouse over the variable and the value will be displayed.
