Here's my two cents worth:

If the file is opened through the RSE Tree View or the iSeries Table View, 
the contents will be current with those on the AS/400.  If the file is 
reopened by selecting 'File', then choosing the recently edited 
member/file from the list there, I believe it will open the local copy.  I 
just verified this and the AS/400 doesn't even show a lock on a source 
physical file member opened for editing.
