Adrian,
Thanks for your answers, although it did not solve my problem, I learned a

1.- The correct way to configure LPEX is through the preference pages,
in this case: Window > Preferences > LPEX Editor > Controls > Prefix
area. Note, however, that application editors (such as WDSC's Remote
Systems LPEX Editor) may override any of these settings (such as the
prefix area), and may or may not provide their own preferences for these.
You can view the editor global settings by entering
viewProfile
from any LPEX window's command line.
2.- If you do want to fiddle with the Editor.properties file itself, you
should do it when WDSC is not running. Also, note that this file holds
Java properties, i.e., key=value pairs ("default.prefixArea=on"), not
LPEX commands (such as "set prefixArea off").
3.- With a bit of programming you can write your own user profile, which
is run for every new LPEX view opened. See an example by entering on an
LPEX command line:
?samples
and scroll down to the TestUserProfile sample class, or enter:
?testuserprofile
to go there directly. The source code of the samples is provided.
