Thought I'd pass this on as it may also explain some of the failures others have reported when installing updates. Claus Weiss remembered that at one time he'd had an apparent problem with updates when the policy file was "buried" several levels down in directory structure. Decided to investigate this as when I copied the files to disk I had organized them in "fix folders" consequently the path name of the policy file was quite long. I moved all the files so that the path to the policy file was very short (about 8 characters) and tried again. The darn thing worked!! It appears that there is a bug in RPU where the path length can exceed some internal maximum and this can cause errors in the update that are not correctly diagnosed. So - if you are placing the updates on a network drive - don't bury them too deeply! Still don't know how RPU managed to completely hose my install but reinstall fixed that. Sadly I still haven't got WDSC 6.0.1 running as it appears that the WDSC updates I have require RAD 6.0.1.1 and that is 1.4G which is not a practical option for me to download on the home DSL.
