Webfaced heading affects column width -- WDSCI-L

The column widths in the body of the web-faced page are affected by the 
headings.  Each time I move the heading to the right or left, the 
underlying columns increase in width but the columns on each side retain 
their normal widths.
I have tried creating the heading in a separate DDS format to no avail.
Does anyone have a tip on how to make the heading independent of the 
columns in the body?
