Date Conversion.

I am trying to use free format to convert a date field into a numeric field.. 

I used the following command and it does not work.

    D*  date fields..
    D @dateA          s               d   inz(D'2004-12-04')
    D*  numeric fields..
    D @numA           s              6  0 inz(041205)

     // date to numeric..
      @numA = %dec(%char(@dateA:*ymd/):6:0);
I am new to RPG. Can any of the RPG gurus throw some light on this please. I would really appreciate it. I understand that this is not an RPG forum but I am using WDSc for all my coding...:-0). 

Any help is much appreciated.
