It has been my experience that you have to allocate the message queue first within WDSc first or you will have problems with your 5250 session(s).

The first thing I do when booting up my PC is start WDSc and within RSE, expand iSeries Messages -> My Messages. This makes sure WDSc has allocated my message queue. Then I can open up a 5250 session. Just as Mark stated, if your 5250 session gets the message first it belongs to it.

I have solved a lot of problems with the plug-in messages by making sure WDSc allocates first.

Best regards,

Gregg Willow

Has anybody else had a problem trying to delete a message through
Softlanding's RSE Extension's plugin when you have the message plugin
set to monitor for messages and pop-up a dialog box without deleting the
message?

I used to have the monitoring configure to delete the message, but I
often clicked ok before I really read the message <grin>, so I changed
it to not delete the message so I could go back and look at it again.

That's fine, but when I try to delete the message from WDSC, I get an
error saying that

Seems as if the monitoring code is getting an exclusive lock on the MSGQ
when it really doesn't need to.

This is the documented behavior. It is no different than if your sign on
to a 5250 terminal and it allocates your message queue. Then sign on to
another 5250 session. In that session you cannot delete messages from
your queue. The message plugin is monitoring your queue in a background
thread so the UI cannot delete messages from the queue.

I just set mine up to email me messages, except for Inquiries.

Mark
