Hi, I've recently assisted some people in doing an EGL project on iSeries (the first time I know of someone using it, and they used the Visual predecessor product on mainframe hence why), but I'm far from impressed. While the learning curve might be easier than writing full Java applications, I neither see any other reason why people would jump into EGL (apart from in this case were it was more or less porting... however I'm convinced that Java people could do it faster and better in Java). Kind regards, Paul ----- Oorspronkelijk bericht ----- Van: albartell [mailto:albartell@xxxxxxxxx] Verzonden: donderdag, juli 14, 2005 04:34 AM Aan: ''Websphere Development Studio Client for iSeries'' Onderwerp: RE: [WDSCI-L] EGL books I took a tutorial session on EGL at DevCon in NewOrleans and I left scratching my head as to IBM's intentions. I was wondering why someone would take the time to learn a language like EGL instead of Java, or why IBM would dispose of NET.DATA in favor of creating another language - EGL. Is anybody moving forward with EGL? Why did you choose EGL vs. Java and all of it's related technologies? Aaron Bartell
