BTW, the 30 years War was touched off by what is called the Defenestration of Prague (1618). A couple vice-regents of the Austrian emperor were thrown out a window in the castle in Prague, over an issue of religious freedom. Britannica says they were not severely injured (the first such action in the 1400s had a number of people thrown onto some sharp spikes). That is a nice way of saying it - one source says they were thrown into a ditch, another that they were thrown into a pile of garbage, mostly straw, that had collected in the moat. But where did used straw come from, eh?

So this looks like a Czech tradition - what's your heritage, Joe?
