I have noticed the same response numerous times on this list to solve
problems - Create a new workspace. I questioned the maturity of WDSCi a few
months ago (http://archive.midrange.com/wdsci-l/200409/msg00149.html). The
consensus of that thread was that there was so much to like about WDSCi that
you were willing to overlook the problems it has. I'm not sure I have that
luxury.

You may call it luxury or you may call it necessity; the point is that IBM is not developing PDM/SEU anymore but gives us WDSC instead. Depending on your age you may decide to stay with PDM/SEU until you retire, or you have to go along with IBM and start using WDSC (or do something completely different, of course).

I just received the 5.1.2 cd-roms. I am waiting for my brand-spankin' new
P4 1GB RAM XP Pro box to be delivered to my desk. I *will* install 5.1.2
and install the updates. I will "wiggle my toes in the water", but I doubt
I'll be jumping off the dock anytime soon. I will be in an absolute crunch
mode for the next five months, so I cannot afford downtime due to product
immaturity. I need something that I don't have to worry about potentially
spending hours at a time problem-solving the development tool. Right now,
reading from this list, WDSCi is just not there.

If you think WDSC is not there now, don't expect it to ever get there. WDSC consists of Eclipse (which in itself is very good) and an enormous load of plug-ins. The number of plug-ins grows with each release, and so does the complexity of the beast. Guess what that does to the number of bugs. And to the manageability of the documentation.

I understand that the fine folks in Toronto inherited WDS. I do not know
the quality of the stuff they inherited, but I'm guessing there was a reason
why the move to Toronto was made. This is pure speculation on my part.
(Please fill in the missing blanks.)

Yesterday I read a blurb about Websphere version 6 coming out in December.
Is WDSCi being upgraded as part of this announcement?

It probably means that the next release will get a decent version number, instead of the rather idiotic 5.1.2 we are having now.
