Alt+L implies a selection of a range of complete lines, therefore a paste (insertion of the clipboard text at the current cursor) may add a CR (new line) you may not have planned on...

I recommend that you use Alt+C (block copy) or Alt+M (block move) after selecting with Alt+L.
