Whenever I get RNF5177 compile error, the i-Series error list seems to
always show the line number as 0. If I double click on the error, it
takes me to the top of the program. It that correct?

I did the same compile in SEU, SEU is able to take me to the block of
code that missing the end statement.
<end snip>

That is normal. The verifier cannot identify where the ENDyy opcode is
missing, just that there is a mismatch between the number of
scope-terminated opcodes and their associated scope terminator.

The way to find out where the missing ENDyy scope terminator is to be
inserted is by performing an indented view of the source.
