[WDSCI-L] Java and the IFS

I have a java source on the IFS here at work.  I can right click on it
and compile it and create the class file    At the local community
college when physically at the college, I can do the same thing.  
However, when I'm at work and try to compile the  java source at the
community college, nothing happens.  When I say nothing happens, I mean
that the Command shell shows running, then goes to finished, but nothing
compiles, no messages, nothing.   They have tried opening firewalls,
etc, but with no success.  

Any ideas what may be preventing this.
