Not that it is terribly important (with terminals not being made by IBM
anymore), but type-ahead is supported by real terminals. I know of a developer
(the last terminal user in our company) who dislikes type-ahead so much that he
used to change system value QKBDBUF to *NO, because 'it is confusing for the
users', as he argued.
