The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

Still frustrated over the painfully slow installation of fixes via Update
Manager, I've started to look elsewhere. I looked in the WDSC help (have
Advanced Edition 5.1) and found nothing other than how to use UM (can't
resist - is that like a big pause in the conversation?). Nothing about
alternatives if you need to do multiple installations (there was something
about that for WAS, not for WDSC). I went to www.iseries.ibm.com/websphere
and eventually found my way to downloads, where I found the 5.1.0.2 fix at
<ftp.software.ibm.com/as400/products/ad/wdt400/v51/adv/wdsc_ae51_fix_5102.zip>,
a file of approx. 180megs.
Then I tried the Improved Search engine at iSeries Support and found PTFs
SI08267 superseded by SI09849 (V5R2) and SI08245 superseded by SI09833
(V5R1), called WDSC Advanced Edition for iSeries 5.0.1 fix pack, with the
caveat that it is about 400-500meg in size, so it'll take a while to install.
BTW, the numbers for the Standard Edition are SI08205 superseded by SI09830
(V5R2) and SI08204 superseded by SI09828 (V5R1).
So what's this all mean? I'm just now installing 5.1.0.2 via UM, after
doing the painful iterative thing that takes hours. Is the FTP version
equivalent, does it contain all requisite stuff? Are the PTFs equivalent to
anything above?
None of these alternatives are documented in the Help, as far as I can find.
Thanks
Vern
