Oh boy! I don't know I didn't realize what I could kick off with what I thought was a simple question. Jon, I'm nor sure I understand, but it looks like your response is directed to me. ILE COBOL is what I'm using here. I still don't have a refresh button on the outline view. Maybe I'll just see if I can get FRED to work and actually get an enhancement request in for a refresh button. (We don't use IE and FRED doesn't always cooperate.) I know I can save my work, but there are times while I'm part-way through adding a new chunk of logic to a program that I need to jump around to various parts of the program while I enter all the related code changes. In these situations, the outline is outdated. I know it takes a long time to update or even get an RPG outline, but COBOL is so fast I wonder if it would really take that much horsepower to update it as you typed. My brain just fights the idea of hitting 'Save' when I'm not anywhere near done. I guess since I'm using a windows tool I ought to adapt windows logic and 'save early, save often' since crashes are inevitable. I guess I just grew up in the stable environment of a S/38, AS/400, . . . ;-) Michael Quigley Systems-Analyst The Way International www.TheWay.org original message: ------------------------------ date: Fri, 20 Feb 2004 14:11:18 -0500 from: "Jon Paris" <Jon.Paris@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> subject: Re: [WDSCI-L] How to update COBOL outline Then I guess you must be using OPM COBOL. Sorry I just kinda assume that everyone is using the latest compiler. Bad assumption I know but ILE COBOL has been out about 7 years now and I haven't used OPM COBOL since! There's a lot of good stuff in ILE COBOL. For me it is like RPG/400 vs RPG IV - it is no contest. ILE COBOL is a superset of COBOL/400 so I use it for all the COBOL stuff I do.
