Mike,

Its not waiting for you to enter your password is it. Ive found that the RSE
window is easily hidden if your type in another app for instance, so WDSC
appears to be locked up until you minimize all windows

I've done as you suggested, and now I can get into the java, debug, web etc,
but it still locks up when I try to open the RSE perspective.  

Any other suggestions?

When things get THIS bollixed up, Mike, it's often a sign that your
configuration is hosed.  In that case, about all you can do is rebuild it
from scratch.  I would attempt the following: go into the .metadata folder
for your workspace and rename the .config folder to something like
saveconfig.  Then restart WDSC on the workspace.  This should rebuild the
configuration.
