Exactamundo. The NetServer ports are actually NETBIOS ports, which are the Network Neighborhood items - you know, the file and print sharing things that make Network Neighborhood YOUR neighborhood. Almost all ISPs now block these. They're in the vicinity of 137 to 139, IIRC.

So your network folk probably can't ( and should not) open these, because the ISP has them blocked, anyway. The VPN solution is the way to go. Then you are virtually (sic) on the company network, and these ports are (or probably should be) open there.
